FEDU works alongside children, youth, and families in Burundi. We build the skills, enterprise, and community that people carry forward on their own.
Founded in 2020, FEDU exists to make quality, equitable, and holistic education a reality for people who are usually left out of it. We do not hand over a solution and leave. We work beside people until they can carry the work themselves.
Our programs follow a person across a whole life. A child learns to read and imagine. A young adult turns skills and a lived problem into an enterprise. A family and its elders are steadied through a hard season. The through line is the same at every age: give people the tools, and they improve their own community.
Each program meets people at a different stage of life. Together they form a single path from childhood to a self-reliant community.
Fount Hub does not graduate youth with a certificate and send them to look for jobs that are not there. Young people take real roles, form teams, and turn a lived problem into a social enterprise. Graduation happens when that enterprise can pay for itself.
Freesponsibility. Scholars are not passive students. They run real roles, from budgets to logistics, and that responsibility becomes the classroom. If the work fails, the community feels it. That pressure is the point.
The Forge is the on-ramp to Fount Hub: a 20-day intensive that works either as the precursor to the full programme or as a condensed version of it. It is the proof-of-concept for a permanent institution, not a short course that ends on day 20.
These voices were first shared in our public annual reports. Photographs of each person will be added here as we place them.
Fount of Education International was founded in 2020 by a multicultural team who believe quality education should not depend on where a person is born. FEDU is a registered Burundian non-profit governed by a board of directors, working as a local part of a global effort toward Sustainable Development Goal 4.
We stay close to the ground. The work is designed around small-town and rural Burundian life, not borrowed from somewhere else and dropped in.
